The decade of mobile. There I said it again. It is looking pretty clear that mobile media and the mobile device are a huge winner in the economy. Despite the stock market failure and the housing crisis people do not drop their mobile usage. In fact use of mobile communications are skyrocketing. The theory says that as people get more unstable and lose jobs and go into hardships they reach out more often to friends and loved ones. Also as a person losses a job they also lose their home base of operations. So the new office for them becomes the cell phone. The only place you can reach someone. Then as they take a new job they learn from the experience to never allow themselves to get screwed again by losing communications with others. So their cell phone becomes the best new phone number not the new office number. More people will be going direct. Less people will use the company phone systems. And millions of dollars in corporate revenues will now be routed direct to the person and not the company. So beware of firing your hired guns as inthe next decade they will command the ultimate CRM system. There very own cell phone. No company can beat that except for att or Verizon themselves.
Hmmm something to think about.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — NineMobile.com announced the launch of a platform solution that can augment any digital signage network with interactive mobile responses and ad messages deliverable to mobile phones. Nine Mobile offer any DOOH advertising network a major enhancement to their current with a service that drives consumer usage, provides a take away link beyond the DOOH display, and has a measurable ROI.

A call to action is placed in the digital signage ad to prompt viewers to either call a voice number or send a text message to request ad content. Upon request, an SMS will be delivered to the caller’s mobile phone containing product or service information, coupons, entry to a sweepstakes and other promotional information. SMS delivery is nationwide, and international access numbers are also available.

Mobile response added to digital signage greatly increases an ad’s effectiveness by enhancing information recall and establishing a two-way communication with consumers. Digital signage companies may start using this service without the need for additional development and launch new campaign services such as text2win, polling and survey immediately.

November 18, 2008

From Digital Signange Association. SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The promise of interactivity between potential customers and display technology is only at its beginning; however, advertisers are looking to enable a higher level of engagement with digital signage audiences by enabling a backchannel. Due to the simplicity of SMS messaging and the ubiquity of wireless handsets, 40 percent of new networked digital display platform installations will leverage SMS for interactivity by 2012, according to MultiMedia Intelligence. This is up from approximately 5 percent in 2007.
SMS is not the only manner for providing interactivity. Other wireless methods such as RFID, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi will also find significant penetration in interactive digital signage platforms. In 2008, 169,000 newly installed digital displays had Bluetooth, RFID, Wi-Fi or SMS capabilities or some combination of these four protocols.
“Wireless is the operative word for how digital displays engage customers,” said Rick Sizemore, chief strategist for MultiMedia Intelligence. “Implementing SMS interactivity is a path that opens new revenue streams and will bring back 1-to-1 marketing. MultiMedia Intelligence expects that no alternatives will find the potential success enjoyed by SMS.”
